Two current-time snapshots on the recovery from BigResearch.
First, despite the upward trends we read about in the paper, Americans are still very realistic about the economy: only a third feel confident that there is a good chance for a strong economy. That ratio is relatively unchanged from the Spring. The takeaway is that whatever change in consumer behavior financial reports reflect, that change is occurring despite a generally downbeat outlook.
The second is that consumers are giving themselves credit for having saved over the past year. Despite the lack of a comparative data point, this is a shift from the deficit economy that the nation was running at different points in the last decade.
